Quality Control System
The first element in our quality control system (QC) is the assignment of the commodity code. The purpose of this is to:
- identify the participants in the process (translators, language resources, products)
- optimise terminology and translation memories
- use reference material that is wholly pertinent to the subject
- harmonise the filing and management systems on the basis of content rather than formal categories
The commodity code is used for identification in the following areas:
TECHNICAL
The aim is to select the right know-how for the project, bearing in mind that the technical resources used are all different: reference materials, specialist know-how, the use of correct and up-to-date references, etc.
A code is assigned to every project on the basis of this identification.
LINGUISTIC
The appropriate resources must be selected in order to translate a source text correctly into a target text. To obtain a "correct" result, it is not only necessary to select suitable translators, revisers and proofreaders, but also identify style guides, glossaries and correct translation memories; in other words correctly updated materials with the same commodity codes.
ELECTRONIC
The goal of electronic identification is to highlight unique characteristics or potential issues in the software applications that could impact timeframes, workflow and project participants.
The final step is to look at all the issues that may affect the team; issues that are in fact caused by the team environment, from project queries to workflow progress and the management of data updated by a large number of people.
